Rory Gallagher Tour Poster UK April 1978

from £16.00

The tour poster promoting Rory’s April 1978 UK tour.

Another thrill of mine during my early days as a music photographer was working with the utterly brilliant Rory Gallagher. I was lucky to be already working with many bands, including Status Quo. Their management company was called Quarry Productions, and they had rather nice offices across the road from me in Wardour Street, Soho, London. The reason they were called Quarry is because of their two main artists, Status Quo and Rory Gallagher and then you suddenly have the two names together, Quo & Rory as Quarry. I quickly started working with Rory and his managers, the lovely David Oddie & Colin Johnson.

I was suddenly asked to go here, there and everywhere with Quo or Rory. I spent quite a bit of time on the road with Rory and his band. For the most part, the band had become a trio: Rory, Gerry McAvoy on Bass and Ted McKenna on drums. I had already worked with Ted before, as he had been in The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, with whom I had done a bit when I first left school around 1974 /75. I was thrilled to be working more and more with Rory. I was also delighted to have my photos used on his album, Photo Finish. That is one amazing album. It also means a lot to me, as my name is on the back of it. During my few years with Rory, my photos were used everywhere. I mean, tour posters, tour programs, albums, press shots, everything. It was a year or two later, when I was out in the USA on tour with Bob Dylan, that he, Bob, said to me, “Boy, you have been working with Rory Gallagher; he is the best guitarist”. So, Bob Dylan was also a fan of Rory’s. I hope you like this poster. It was promoting the early 1978 UK tour. I don't think it was seen very much at the time, and it is, therefore, quite rare. It looks wonderful on my wall, and I hope you enjoy having one (or two) on a wall of your choice. It’s available in 3 sizes A3 (297 x 430mm, 11.7 x 16.5inches) , A2 (420x 594mm, 16.5 x23.4 inches), & A1 (594 x 841mm, 23.4 x 33.1 inches)

I will be signing each poster that is bought. Please tell us if you don’t want it signed ( I won’t be offended).
